WIREMAN Job Role
A Wireman is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring systems in homes, factories, workshops, and commercial establishments. The wireman studies wiring diagrams and installation plans before starting electrical installation work.
The primary responsibility of a wireman is to install different types of wiring systems such as cleat wiring, conduit wiring, casing-capping wiring, and concealed wiring. The wireman also installs electrical accessories such as switches, sockets, meters, fuse units, and distribution boards.
During installation work, the wireman ensures that electrical connections are made safely to avoid short circuits and electrical leakage. After completing the installation, the wiring system is tested using instruments such as megger to ensure proper insulation and continuity.
A wireman may also work as a cable jointer, joining underground cables using special insulating materials and protective sleeves. Another role performed by wiremen is sealing electrical meters to prevent tampering and illegal electricity usage.
Modern wiremen also install solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and smart electrical systems used in modern buildings.
