WIREMAN Training System

The training system for the Wireman trade is organized under the Directorate General of Training (DGT) to provide industry-relevant vocational education to trainees across India. The program is implemented through a network of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and follows a competency- based training approach.

The course is structured into two major learning areas known as the Domain Area and the Core Area. The domain area includes Trade Practical and Trade Theory subjects that provide technical knowledge and practical skills related to electrical wiring and electrical systems. The core area includes Employability Skills that help trainees develop communication skills, professional ethics, and entrepreneurship knowledge.

The duration of the Wireman course is two years. Each year consists of approximately 1200 hours of training. The distribution of training hours is designed to ensure that trainees receive adequate practical exposure along with theoretical instruction.

  • Professional Skill (Trade Practical): 840 hours per year
  • Professional Knowledge (Trade Theory): 240 hours in first year and 300 hours in second year
  • Employability Skills: 120 hours in first year and 60 hours in second year

In addition to classroom training, trainees also undergo On-the-Job Training (OJT) of about 150 hours each year. This training is conducted in nearby industries or workshops where trainees can gain real-world experience in electrical installation and maintenance work.

The training system emphasizes competency-based learning. This means that trainees are evaluated based on their ability to perform specific tasks such as electrical wiring installation, troubleshooting electrical faults, and maintenance of electrical equipment.

The course also encourages trainees to participate in project work and group activities. These activities help students develop teamwork, leadership skills, and practical problem-solving abilities.

After completing the training program, candidates appear for the All India Trade Test (AITT) conducted by the Directorate General of Training. Successful candidates are awarded the National Trade Certificate, which enables them to work as skilled electrical technicians in various industries.
