Wiring of Two Exhaust Fans with Interlocking Switch Control
Trade: Electrician | Semester: II
Question: Take two exhaust fans and perform wiring in such a way that only one fan is ON at a time or both remain OFF using appropriate switches.
Introduction
This circuit is used to control two exhaust fans in such a way that only one fan operates at a time or both remain OFF. This is achieved using proper switch arrangement to avoid simultaneous operation.
Objective
To wire two exhaust fans with a switching system so that only one fan runs at a time.
Apparatus Required
- Two exhaust fans
- Two 1-way switches (or one changeover switch)
- Connecting wires
- Power supply
- Tools (screwdriver, tester)
Working Principle
The circuit is designed so that when one switch is ON, the other path is disconnected. This ensures only one fan receives power at a time. When both switches are OFF, no fan operates.
Wiring Procedure
- Connect phase wire to common terminal of switch.
- Connect output of switch 1 to Fan 1.
- Connect output of switch 2 to Fan 2.
- Ensure interlocking so both switches cannot supply simultaneously.
- Connect neutral wire to both fans.
- Check connections and switch ON supply.
Operation
- Switch 1 ON → Fan 1 runs
- Switch 2 ON → Fan 2 runs
- Both OFF → No fan runs
Precautions
- Ensure proper insulation
- Do not allow both fans to connect simultaneously
- Check wiring before switching ON
Result
The wiring was completed successfully. Only one fan operated at a time and both remained OFF when switches were OFF.
